Dr. Pinar Karagoz is a highly accomplished academic whose career is marked by robust education, rich professional experience, strong research interests, well-developed research skills, and multiple recognitions. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey; she also completed her Master’s and Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering at METU. Throughout her career Dr. Pinar Karagoz has held various positions including faculty at METU, visiting scholar roles in international institutions, and leadership of her own lab (the Karagoz Lab) focusing on data mining, machine learning, recommender systems, semantic web, web usage mining, and social network analysis. Her research interests span machine learning algorithms, big data analytics, workflow and process mining, graph mining, recommendation systems, and information retrieval from web and social media. She has strong research skills in statistical learning, sequential data mining, graph and hyper-graph modeling, stream and event detection, Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods (e.g., irony detection, named entity recognition), trust-aware recommendation, optimization algorithms, and evaluation of algorithms under real world datasets. Dr. Pinar Karagoz has authored 2 documents, 4 Citations, 2 h‐index in some smaller contexts but in larger Scopus / WoS metrics she has many more (Scopus h-index ≈ 23; WoS h-index ≈ 20) and is widely cited (Scopus citations > 1600; WoS > 1100). Her labs and collaborations have produced over one hundred articles in international conferences and journals. She has received awards and honours such as Best Paper Awards, “Distinguished Reviewer” recognitions (e.g. for VLDB), national research funding successes (for instance TÜBİTAK, etc.), and she is often invited to give keynote or invited talks, mentor graduate students, and participate on editorial boards and program committees. In addition, she is professionally active through serving in projects (national and international), supervising theses, and contributing to open source and open research initiatives.
