Prof. Mario Augusto is a highly accomplished scholar and Full Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, Portugal, widely recognized for his expertise in corporate finance, banking, entrepreneurship, and strategic financial management. He obtained his degree in Economics, a master’s in European Economics, a Ph.D. in Management (Finance), and later achieved Habilitation in Finance, all from the University of Coimbra. Throughout his distinguished academic career, Prof. Mario Augusto has demonstrated exceptional leadership and scholarly excellence, serving as the Coordinator of the Business Administration Department and as a member of the Faculty of Economics Assembly. He has significantly contributed to the fields of corporate governance, capital structure, microcredit, innovation management, and financial inclusion, actively engaging in research that bridges academic theory with practical financial solutions. His professional experience also includes long-term research appointments at the Centre for Business and Economics Research (CeBER) and the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR) at the University of Coimbra, where he worked on interdisciplinary projects combining finance, technology, and organizational behavior. Prof. Mario Augusto’s research skills encompass advanced econometric modeling, generalized method of moments (GMM), structural equation modeling (SEM), and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), which he applies to analyze firm performance, governance mechanisms, and financial risk. His scientific contributions include over 200 publications across peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, book chapters, and international conference papers, many in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Finance Research Letters, and Technological Forecasting and Social Change. He has collaborated internationally with researchers from Brazil, Spain, England, the United States, and Romania, leading and co-investigating major funded projects, including “The Role of Microcredit in Promoting Financial and Social Inclusion,” supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
