Dr Shruti Sengupta, IIT Roorkee, India

Dr. Shruti Sengupta, Ph.D., specializes in Applied Microeconomics, Development Economics, Labor Economics, and Economics of Gender. She earned her doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University in 2020. Currently an Assistant Professor at IIT Roorkee, she teaches courses like Introductory Microeconomics and Development Economics. Her research, including publications on local employment multipliers and fracking impacts, focuses on socio-economic dynamics in India, with ongoing studies on trade liberalization effects on marriage and fertility. Dr. Sengupta also serves as Co-PI on ICSSR-funded projects evaluating socio-economic impacts in Uttarakhand. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ“Š

Dr. Shruti Sengupta, holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Oklahoma State University, USA, awarded in 2020. Their dissertation, “Essays on the interplay among local economic shocks and demographic outcomes,” explores the complex relationships between local economic changes and demographic trends. They also earned an M.Sc in Economics and a B.Sc in Economics from the University of Calcutta, India, both with first division honors. Teaching Experience

Dr. Shruti Sengupta, an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, brings a wealth of teaching expertise spanning undergraduate and graduate levels. At IIT Roorkee, courses such as Economics, Introductory Microeconomics, and Development Economics form part of their curriculum. Previously, at Oklahoma State University, they served as an Instructor of Record, imparting knowledge in Money and Banking. Their instructional journey includes roles as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for online and in-person classes, covering topics from Managerial Economics to Energy Economics. They also contributed as a Guest Lecturer at Shri Shikshayatan College, University of Calcutta. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŒ

Dr. Shruti Senguptais a distinguished economist with accolades including the XXV Annual Economic Meeting (AEM) Travel Grant in Toledo, Spain (2023) ๐ŸŒ, recognition as an Outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate at Oklahoma State University (2020) ๐ŸŽ“, and honors as an Outstanding Economics Doctoral Student (2019). They were a Runner-Up in the Oklahoma State University Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition in 2018 and 2019 ๐Ÿ†, and hold the Richard and Maxine Leftwich Distinguished Graduate Fellowship since 2017. Their academic journey features the Graduate College Top Tier Fellowship (2015-16) ๐Ÿ“š and years of service as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Economics (2015-2020) ๐Ÿ’ผ.
