Dr. Matthew Broadway-Horner is a distinguished mental health and health services researcher with over a decade of experience leading innovative, internationally impactful studies. Education  

Dr. Matthew Broadway-Horner holds a Ph.D. in Mental Health and Sexual Minorities from the University of Greater Manchester, where he developed the original PWV Theory and contributed significantly through systematic reviews and methodological innovations. He also earned an M.Sc. in Applied Psychology from Robert Gordon University and an M.Sc. in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from Goldsmiths, University of London. Additionally, he completed a PGDip in Functional Analytic Psychotherapy at the University of Washington, USA. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Nursing Studies from Kingston University and St George’s, followed by a B.A. (Hons) in Health Services Management & Health Studies from the University of East London. He is also BABCP-accredited and has demonstrated continuous professional development across psychology, psychotherapy, and nursing education.

Professional Experience

Dr. Matthew Broadway-Horner has amassed extensive professional experience across clinical, academic, and research leadership roles in the UK, New Zealand, and internationally. He currently serves as a Nurse Consultant at Te Whatu Ora in New Zealand, focusing on quality improvement and health services research, and as a Co-Investigator on clinical evaluation studies at Te Toka Tumai Auckland. Previously, he held academic positions including Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at the University of Chester and Senior Lecturer & CBT Supervisor at the University of Hertfordshire, where he led major NHS-funded research projects. He also served as Head of the School of Health Sciences at the Colombo International Institute of Higher Education in Sri Lanka, contributing to humanitarian training programs. His diverse roles have encompassed principal and co-investigator responsibilities on multiple funded studies, supervision of research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and leadership in psychosocial interventions in post-crisis contexts, showcasing a dynamic career dedicated to mental health innovation and global health advancement.
